Prashant Provision Store

My name is Prashant and I run this little provision store here in Sirur Tajband. It’s a small part of the Ahmedpur taluk but everyone knows everyone around here. I’ve been sitting behind this counter for plenty of years now. Most days start the same way with me unlocking the heavy metal shutters while the sun is still quite low in the sky. The dust usually settles on the glass jars overnight so I spend time wiping them down before the first few people stop by on their way to the fields or work. We have all the basic stuff you’d expect in a village shop like grains, soaps, matches, and those colorful snacks the kids always ask for. Sometimes the delivery trucks are late because the roads out here aren't the best, but we always manage to keep things in stock. My family helps out when it gets crowded in the evenings after everyone finishes their shift. It’s not a fancy place at all. It is just a solid room with some wooden shelves and a lot of familiar faces coming through the door. People come in not just for a kilo of salt or some cooking oil but also to talk about the rain or how the crops are doing this year. I like the steady rhythm of it. It gets really noisy when the school nearby lets out for the day and then it gets very quiet during the afternoon heat. I try to keep things organized but sometimes boxes pile up in the corner when I'm too busy to move them. That’s just how a real shop works.
