The office is at number 46 in Nehru Nagar, right on Bijapur Road. It’s a busy stretch of road, so there’s always the sound of buses and horns in the background while I’m working. I’ve been running this agency for a while now, and most of my day is spent looking at bus timings and talking to drivers on the phone. It’s a small place, just enough room for a couple of chairs and my desk which is usually covered in old registers and loose slips of paper. People come in looking to go to all sorts of places, and sometimes it’s hard to find a seat during the holiday rush. I try my best to help them figure out the quickest way to get where they’re going. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but I haven't had the time to close the shop for even a day. My tea guy comes by three times a day, which is probably the only break I get. Running a travel desk means you’re always on call because someone’s bus might be late or they can’t find the pickup point. Bijapur Road is always moving, and we are right in the middle of it. It’s a practical business, nothing fancy about it. We just sit here, answer the phones, and make sure people get their tickets so they can get home to their families. It is a lot of talking, but that is the job.
