Motilal Marble

The shop, Motilal Marble, is located right on the Chhapra Main Road in Makhdoom Sarai. It is on the west side of Siwan. If you know where the BPO office is, we are basically right next to that. It is a busy stretch of road, so there is always noise from the traffic and people walking past. We have been here for some time now, dealing with all kinds of marble slabs. Moving marble is a slow process because you cannot rush it or things might crack. We spend a lot of time out front watching the road while we wait for the next truck to arrive. The dust from the road gets on everything, so we have to wipe down the slabs pretty often. It’s hard work on the back, especially when we have to lift the heavier pieces. We usually have a few guys here helping with the heavy lifting. In the evenings, the sun hits the front of the shop directly, making it pretty warm inside. We usually just sit on the stools outside during the lunch break and watch the commuters go by toward Chhapra. It is a very normal life here. We don’t have any fancy displays, just rows of stone leaning against the walls. We know most of the people who live around Makhdoom Sarai by now. It’s just how it is when you run a shop on the main road for years.
