Selva Vinayagar Rice Mill

Our rice mill sits right on Kundrakudi Road in Pallathur. If you live around here, you’ve probably heard the machinery humming away during the day. It’s a loud place, full of the smell of grain and the sound of motors running constantly. We’ve been processing rice here for a long time, and the building shows its age a bit. There’s always dust in the air, no matter how much we sweep the floors at the end of the day. Working in Pallathur is good because the local farmers don’t have to travel far to bring their harvest to us. It’s honest work, even if it leaves you tired and covered in grit by the end of the shift. My father worked in a mill too, so I guess it’s just what we know. We don’t have a website or any of those modern things. We just open the gates in the morning and wait for the tractors to pull in. The sun gets hot in the afternoons, but inside the mill, it stays a bit cooler because of the high ceilings. We keep things moving, bag by bag. Most of the people working here are from the village, so we’ve known each other forever. It’s just a part of the life here on Kundrakudi Road. We do the milling, stack the sacks, and get ready for the next load to arrive. There is always a lot of heavy lifting and shouting over the noise, but we are used to it by now.
