Mahesh Rice Mandi

We are located over at 226 Kavandanpatti Road and mostly we deal with different kinds of rice that come in from the local areas. My uncle started this place a long time back on Nadar Puthu Street and it has stayed in the family ever since. The shop is not very big but we have enough room to stack the bags when the new stock arrives in the morning. People walk by and sometimes they stop to check the prices or just to say hello while they are going about their day. It gets quite dusty when the trucks are unloading out front and sometimes the traffic on the road makes it hard to move around easily. We don't have a fancy office or anything like that because we spend most of our time on the floor moving sacks or talking to the regulars who have been coming here for years. It is hard work especially in the summer heat when the air feels thick but we just keep going because that is what we do. Sometimes the rice varies a bit depending on the harvest but we try to tell people honestly what we have available on the shelves. There are a few of us working here and we take turns handling the scales and making sure the counts are right before anyone leaves. It is a simple life and we are just another small business on this street trying to get by.
