Agarwal Rice Mill

The rice mill is located out in Bhira Kheri, which falls within the Lakhimpur Kheri district. It is quite a drive to get out here, as we are surrounded by wide open fields and farmland. This is the place where the raw rice comes to be processed after the harvest season is over. The mill building is a large, sturdy shed with a lot of heavy, rattling equipment inside. During the summer months, it gets incredibly hot under the tin roof, especially when all the machines are running at full speed. We spend our days watching over the husking, cleaning, and sorting processes. There is a constant low hum that you can feel in your feet when you stand on the floor. We have a tiny office located right near the main gate where we weigh the trucks as they come in and out. It is a very quiet, rural setting here, so the only real noise comes from the mill itself. We don't see many new faces, mostly just the same group of truck drivers and local farmers we have known for years. The paperwork is simple, mostly just recording weights and checking the quality of the grain. We have been a part of the Bhira Kheri community for a very long time. The mill is really the center of everything we do. We don't have any fancy marketing. We just focus on processing the rice properly so it can be sent off to the regional markets. It is hard, dusty work, but it feels right. We keep the machines running.
