Tss Ltd. is based at the New Market Yard in Uttarkannada. Being in the market yard means we are right in the middle of everything. From early morning, the place is full of farmers bringing in their produce. It’s a lot of shouting and engines idling. We have a space here where we manage the trade and keep track of what’s coming and going. The air smells like earth and dried goods. Our office is just a basic room with some benches and a big table for sorting through papers. We don't have air conditioning, just a few ceiling fans that spin all day. People walk in and out without knocking most of the time. It’s a very open sort of place. We handle a lot of the logistics for the local growers. Some days we are buried in sacks and some days it’s just a lot of phone calls to find out where the trucks are. We don't use any fancy marketing tricks. People know us because we have been in this yard for years. We eat our lunch together on the back steps when it’s quiet. The market has its own rhythm and we just follow it. It’s a hard way to make a living sometimes but it feels honest. When the market closes for the day, we sweep the floor and head out with everyone else. It is just another day at the yard for us.
