Kalra Photostat Rania

Kalra Photostat Rania is over in the Sirsa district at what people call Kalra Photostat Chowk. It is in the Raniya Tehsil area. My family has been around here for a long time. The shop is basically built around the big xerox machines. They are the heart of the place. They make a lot of heat and that specific smell of warm paper and toner. I spend my day making copies of ID cards, school books, and legal papers. Sometimes the machine gets a paper jam and I have to open it up and pull out the crumpled bits. It happens more when the paper gets a little damp from the air. I have a lot of regular customers. Farmers come in with land papers or kids needing copies of their homework. I also do some basic typing and printing if someone needs a letter done for an office. The chowk is named after the shop because we have been here so long, which is kind of funny when you think about it. I sit on a stool near the front so I can see people coming. Rania is a quiet place compared to the big cities, but there is always enough work to do. I don't use any fancy filing systems. Everything is in folders on the shelf behind me. It is a honest living and I like being my own boss in my own corner of Sirsa. People know they can find me here if they need something copied.
