Our business has a long name, Bakhtawar Ram Fateh Chand Bricks Industry, but most people around here just know where we are. We’re in Village Bahauddin, right near the bus stand in Tehsil Sirsa. Being near the bus stand means there’s always people moving around and a lot of noise. It’s a good spot because everyone knows how to find us. We’ve been here in Sirsa for many years. It started with my grandfather, and we’ve just kept it going. The work is mostly about managing the heat of the kilns and making sure the trucks can get in and out without getting stuck. The ground around the bus stand can get pretty torn up when it rains. We spend a lot of time just maintaining the yard. We aren't corporate people. We don't wear ties or have meetings. We just talk over the sound of the engines and the loaders. Sometimes the bricks don't come out quite right and we have to set them aside, but that’s just part of the industry. We try to be helpful when a neighbor needs a few hundred bricks for a project. It’s a local life and we’re happy with it. We just keep our heads down and focus on the day’s work. There’s always another pile of clay waiting to be turned into something useful. We don't think much about the future, just the current stack.
