Ratna Farmer Producer

Down in the village of Satlapur, near the Samarth Mandir, you’ll find Ratna Farmer Producer. This is in the Obedullaganj tehsil of Raisen district. It’s a rural place, surrounded by fields and the sound of the wind. We work closely with the people who grow things here. Our office isn't much to look at—it’s just a solid room near the temple where we meet and talk. There is usually a bit of mud on the floor because folks come straight from the fields to see us. We don't mind it. We have a few benches for people to sit on while we discuss the crops or the weather. The walls are plain, maybe a bit dusty from the local roads. We use a lot of paper ledgers because the electricity can be a bit unreliable for computers sometimes. When the bells at Samarth Mandir ring, it tells us what time of day it is. It’s a slow pace of life compared to the city, but the work is important to us. We handle a lot of grain and seeds, so there’s often a dry, earthy smell in the air. We don't have a big marketing budget or shiny signs. We just have a place where farmers can come and deal with their business in a way that makes sense to them. It’s a simple life out here in Raisen, and we plan to keep it that way for the future.
