Brahmani Marble

Brahmani Marble is situated right on NH 14, near the Ajari Phatak. If you are in the Tehsil Pindwada area of Sirohi, you probably know the spot. Trucks always slow down for the railway crossing here. Because of the highway and the stone cutting, the air is often thick with dust. We keep the marble slabs in a big open space. Huge and heavy, some of these take a lot of effort to move around. We have a small shed for the office, though we spend most of our time outside. Starting work early is necessary because the sun in Sirohi can be really brutal in the summer. The sound of the saws cutting through stone is pretty much the soundtrack to our days. It’s not a glamorous job. We get dirty and our clothes are always covered in white powder. Sometimes the trains passing at the phatak make the whole ground shake. We’ve been here for a while and the locals know us. Our main job is handling the marble and making sure it gets loaded onto the trucks properly. There isn't any big secret to what we do. We just take the stone from the ground and get it ready for whoever needs it. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until late in the evening.
