We’ve been set up near the Jaykaypuram New Bus Stand for quite a while now. It’s a busy spot but we like it here. People come by mostly when they have a wedding or a small family function coming up and need some help making the place look right. We keep a lot of different fabrics and lights in the back. Sometimes the weather gets rough and we have to scramble to keep things from getting dusty, but that’s just how it goes in this line of work. Most mornings start with checking the inventory and making sure everything is clean. We aren’t a big operation, just a few of us who know how to hang the drapes and set up the stages without making a mess of it. If you walk past the bus stand, you’ll probably see us unloading poles or folding up some old backdrops. It isn’t fancy work but it keeps us busy every season. The chai stall next door usually has a crowd, and that brings some people over to look at our photos of past work. We know most of the people around Jaykaypuram by name now. It’s funny how you get used to the noise of the buses coming and going all day. We just focus on getting the job done and moving on to the next house or hall. Sometimes we run out of certain colors if it’s a busy month, so we just make do with what we have on hand. It’s a simple living and we’ve been at it for a long time.
