Our office is in that building with the ICICI ATM counter right at Jalpai Modh. Being on Station Feeder Road means we are always in the thick of it. There’s a lot of dust from the road and the constant sound of horns, but that’s Siliguri for you. We have been working out of this space for some time now. It’s not a very big office, mostly taken up by samples of tea and stacks of registers that we still use. We spend a lot of time looking at different grades of tea and talking to people on the phone. It’s a simple routine. We get in early, open the windows if it isn’t too hot, and start sorting through the day’s work. There’s always someone coming or going, usually with a bag of samples or some paperwork to sign. We don't have a lot of decorations on the walls, just a calendar and maybe some notes pinned up. It’s a practical place for practical work. We aren't trying to be anything we’re not. Most of our neighbors are doing the same thing, just trying to keep their businesses moving. If you’re at the ATM, you’re basically at our front door. It’s a convenient spot even if the traffic is a headache sometimes. We just keep our heads down and handle the tea business as it comes, day by day.
