Gayetri Tea Trading Company

Our office is up on the second floor of the Chaman Complex. If you know where the Axis Bank is on Sevoke Road, we are right near there. It’s a pretty busy area in Darjeeling, so there’s always something going on outside. We do a lot of tea trading from this small space. The rooms are often filled with the smell of different samples we’re checking out. It isn't a huge operation, just a few of us making sure the orders are right. Sometimes the stairs in the complex are a bit cluttered, but we manage. Being in Darjeeling means we are close to where everything grows, which makes the logistics a bit easier for us. We spend a lot of time on the phone or writing down notes on paper pads. It’s a practical way to run a business. We don’t really do fancy meetings or presentations. Most of our day is just checking the quality of what comes in and making sure it gets sent to the right people. The light in the office is okay in the afternoons, which helps when we're looking at the leaves. We’ve been in this spot for a while now and most of the neighbors in the building know us. It’s just a regular workplace where we try to stay on top of the trading cycles without any of that corporate stuff people usually expect.
