We are located up on the 2nd floor of the Mia Garage Building on Hill Cart Road. It’s a busy street, so there is always the sound of horns and people shouting downstairs. If you come up the stairs, the first thing you notice is the smell of dried tea leaves. It’s a strong, earthy scent that kind of sticks to your clothes after a while. We spend our days dealing with piles of tea from the gardens, checking samples, and making sure the bags are labeled right. It’s a lot of paperwork and tasting. The office is a bit crowded with sacks and samples everywhere, but we know where everything is. We don’t have much in the way of decoration, mostly just calendars and some old maps of the tea estates on the walls. Most of the staff has been here for years, so we all know each other’s tea preferences. We sit at these old wooden desks and talk about the harvest or the weather in the Dooars. It’s not a fast-paced corporate life, it’s more about waiting for the right leaf and making sure the quality is okay before it goes out. Sometimes the rain makes the roof leak a tiny bit, but we just put a bucket under it and carry on. It’s just how things are on Hill Cart Road. It gets the job done for us.
