About Durga Iron Stores – Building & Construction Material in Siliguri
Working at No. 198- 134 Sevoke Road means dealing with a lot of noise every day. The traffic outside never seems to stop and neither does the sound of metal hitting metal. We handle a lot of iron bars, rods, and different bits of hardware. It’s heavy work, and by the end of the day, my hands are usually covered in rust and grease. We’ve been here on Sevoke Road long enough that the regulars don't even need to look at the sign anymore. They just pull up their trucks and tell us what they need for their building projects. The inventory changes a lot depending on what arrives in the morning. Sometimes the yard is full and other times it looks a bit empty. We spend a lot of time counting stock and moving piles of iron around to make space for new deliveries. It isn't a glamorous job, but it’s what we do. The heat gets pretty bad in the afternoons, especially with all that metal reflecting the sun. We usually keep a fan going near the desk, but it doesn't do much. People come in with lists from their contractors and we spend time trying to match the specs. It’s a straightforward business. We show up, move the iron, and head home when the sun goes down. There isn't much to talk about besides the work itself. We just keep the yard running as best as we can.
