Atulya Tea Co.

Atulya Tea Co. is based at 2nd Mile on Sevoke Road in the Jalpaiguri district. This road is the main artery for everything coming and going from the hills, so it is always packed with heavy trucks and dust. Our place is right in the thick of it. The building is a functional one, mostly used for storing tea and keeping our records. It’s not the cleanest area because of all the construction and traffic nearby. We spend a lot of time checking the weather because rain really slows things down on Sevoke Road. Inside, the air smells strongly of raw tea leaves, which is something you get used to after a day. We have a small area for tasting, with a few white bowls and some kettles. The rest of the space is just for the bags. Our staff is mostly local people who know the tea gardens well. We don't have any fancy signs or a reception desk. If you walk in, you’ll probably find us wearing jackets because it gets chilly in the winter mornings. We just focus on the tea coming in from the estates. It’s a lot of manual work, moving things around and making sure the labels are right. It’s a gritty, real place to work, but it’s home for Atulya Tea Co.
