About Shree Shyam Glass Art – Housewares & Supplies in Sikar
Our little shop is on Station Road, right where the foot traffic is heaviest. We do a lot of glass cutting and framing here. You can hear the screech of the glass cutter all day long. It’s a sound you get used to after a while. The floor is always covered in tiny shards, so we have to be real careful where we step. We make mirrors, window panes, and sometimes decorative pieces if someone asks for them. The workbench is scarred from years of blades running across it. It’s a dusty job because of the grinding we have to do on the edges. We don’t have a big showroom; it’s mostly just finished pieces leaning against the walls. People come in with measurements written on scraps of paper or cardboard. We just do our best to cut it exactly how they want. Sometimes we break a piece and have to start over, which is frustrating but part of the trade. The light in here isn't great, but we have a few bright bulbs over the main table. It’s a busy atmosphere with the station nearby and the constant flow of people outside the door. We usually have tea together in the afternoon while waiting for the glue to dry on a frame. It’s a simple, steady way to make a living with our hands.
