Running Shiv Hardware out here in Khandela keeps us busy enough. We are situated on the road that goes toward Udaipurwati, which is a main route for many people around here. Being near the bus stand means there is a constant flow of people walking past our front door. Some days it is very loud with the horns and the shouting from the conductors, but you stop noticing it after a while. The shop itself is a bit small for everything we try to keep inside. We have stacks of heavy items near the back and smaller tools up front where they are easier to reach. Khandela is a place where people still fix things themselves, so we get a lot of questions about how to use different items. I don't always have the answer, but we look at it together. The lighting inside isn't the greatest, especially when the clouds roll in, but it works for what we do. My hands are usually a bit greasy or dusty by the time I close up for the evening. We don't have any big signs or bright lights to show the way, just the name on the board above the door. Most people who live nearby know exactly where we are on Udaipurwati Road. It’s a simple life, just minding the store and making sure we have the basic things people ask for.
