Swahid Peoli Phukan College. Namtidole is a quiet place. We’ve been here for a long time in Sibsagar. The college is right by the post office and telegraph office. It gets very green here during the monsoons. Most of us here grew up in these parts. The students come in early, some walking quite a distance from the interior villages. We don't have fancy stuff, just the classrooms and the library. It's mostly about getting through the syllabus and making sure the exams go okay. Sometimes the power goes out, but we just open the windows and keep going. The tea gardens aren't far from here, so that's the view for some of us. It’s a simple life. We have a lot of history in this town. People know us by name. It’s not like those big city universities where no one knows anyone. Here, if a student is missing, someone usually knows why. The staff room is small and we drink a lot of tea while grading papers. It's just a normal college doing its thing in this corner of Assam. We try to keep the place tidy, but the dust always finds a way in. It’s a bit old-fashioned, maybe, but it works for the people around Namtidole. We just focus on the classes and making sure the young folks here have a place to study near home. It has been this way for years now and we just keep on.
