Kiran Rice Mill

Kiran Rice Mill is tucked away in Madderu, Holalkere, specifically at number 695. It’s a quiet enough area compared to the big cities, but at the mill, things stay moving. We have been working out of this building for a long time, and you can see the age in the wooden beams and the way the machinery has been patched up here and there. In Holalkere, people know us by name, which is nice. We spend most of the day covered in a bit of dust, and the air always feels thick with the smell of processed husks. It’s a lot of physical labor, lifting the sacks and making sure the hoppers are full. We don’t have a fancy office or anything like that; we usually just sit on a stool by the entrance when we take a break. The farmers come in with their loads, and we spend time talking about the rain or the harvest while the machines do their thing. Sometimes a part breaks and we have to spend half the morning fixing it with whatever tools we have on hand. It’s just the way it is here in Madderu. We don’t have a website or any of that, we just stay here at 695 and keep the mill running as best as we can. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from sunrise till the evening.
