MCC Construction has its office in Narender House, which is located in the Tuti Kandi area of Shimla. We are right near the ISBT, so there is a constant drone of buses and people moving around outside our door. It’s a very hectic spot to work from, but it makes it easier to coordinate things since everyone knows where the bus stand is. We’ve been doing construction in Shimla for a long time. Building houses and walls on these steep hills is mostly about how much manual labor you can manage. You can't get big machines onto most of these sites, so our guys end up carrying bricks and bags of cement up long flights of stairs or narrow dirt paths. We keep the office part of the business very simple. There’s a desk for the paperwork and some space to store the equipment we aren't using. We don't see the point in spending money on fancy furniture or decorations. Most of our day is spent out at the various sites, checking how the work is going and making sure nobody has run out of materials. The rain is the biggest problem we face. When a heavy storm hits, the whole site has to shut down and we just wait under a plastic sheet until it clears up. It’s a decent way to earn a living and we know most of the other contractors in the area.
