E.S. Rice Mundy

We spend most of our time here at 88-F, Hope College Peo. It is just a regular rice mundy where things happen day in and day out. The building isn't anything fancy to look at, just walls and stacks of bags. People around Hope College know where we are. We get the rice in, we move it around, and that is basically it. Sometimes the trucks come late and we have to wait around. The floor gets a bit dusty from the grain but that is just part of the work. E.S. Rice Mundy has been at this spot for a while now. It gets busy in the mornings when the sun is coming up. You see the same faces mostly. We don’t have a big office or anything like that. Just a desk and the scales. The weather affects how we stack things. If it rains, we have to move fast. It is a lot of heavy lifting. My back feels it some days. We just keep the gates open and wait for the next load. It is a simple way to make a living. There are other shops around but we just stay in our corner. Nothing much changes from week to week. We just handle the rice as it comes through. That is the whole story of this place.
