ALP ENGINEERING PROCUREMENT CONSTRUCTION PRIVATE LIMITED

Our place is over at Geeta Bhawan in Talland, Shimla. It’s a bit of a mouthful to say the full name ALP Engineering Procurement Construction, so we usually just focus on the actual work. Living and working in Shimla means we deal with some steep hills and tight spaces. We handle the engineering side of things, but we also go out and buy the materials and then build the thing. That's a lot of the job, just getting the right parts for the site. Gayatri Sharma is our contact point here. The office is usually filled with blueprints and some half-empty tea cups. It’s not a shiny corporate office, just a workspace where we figure out how to get things done. Building stuff in Himachal is always a challenge because of the terrain. We spend a lot of time on the phone with suppliers trying to get things delivered up here. Some days are good, some days the weather ruins everything. We have a small group of people who know their way around a construction site. We don’t do much advertising; people just know we are here in Talland. We just try to do a decent job so people don’t have to call us back to fix mistakes. It’s honest work and it keeps the lights on. Sometimes the monkeys even try to get into the office if we leave the windows open, but that's just life in Shimla. We keep going regardless of the rain.
