Shahapurkar Farmer Producer Company Limited is basically just us farmers from Shahapur getting organized. We operate out of House Number 463 right here in the village. It’s a pretty simple setup. For a long time, everyone in Shahapur was just doing their own thing, selling where they could and hoping for the best. But that doesn't work so well anymore. We decided to put our names together and form this company so we have a bit more say in what happens with our produce. We aren't business people by training. We grew up on these farms and that’s what we know. My neighbor helps with the paperwork because he’s good with numbers, and the rest of us focus on the fields. It’s not a polished operation. You might see us sitting on the porch at House 463 talking about seed prices or the latest weather report from the radio. We don't have a big mission statement or anything like that. We just want to make sure that when we grow something, we can actually sell it for a price that lets us keep our land and feed our families. It’s a lot of talking to other farmers and trying to get everyone on the same page, which is harder than it sounds. But we’re all from Shahapur, so we know each other and we trust each other to get it done. It's just about looking out for the neighborhood.
