The Arts & Cultural Department, District Govt Musical School is over in Sainathapuram, A S Rao Nagar. We are located in Laxmi Nagar, right near the Prashanth Gardens. It’s a pretty nice part of Hyderabad. Being a government-run musical school, things are a bit different here. It’s not a commercial music studio. It’s a place where people come to learn traditional instruments and songs. You can often hear the sounds of a sitar or a tabla echoing out into the street. It’s a simple building, often needing a bit of paint or a minor repair here and there. We don't have a big marketing budget. Most people find us because they live in the neighborhood or heard about us from a friend. The 500062 area is fairly residential, so we have a lot of local students. We have teachers who have been playing for decades. They don't care much for fancy technology; they just care about the music. It’s a bit of a slow-paced environment. We follow the government schedule and keep things straightforward. You might see people carrying instrument cases in and out throughout the afternoon. It’s a place for culture without any of the pretension. We just keep the doors open and let the music happen. It’s an important little spot for the local community here in Sainathapuram.
