Omaai Foods is tucked away in the Sangameshwar area, specifically around Dapoli in Ratnagiri. It’s a beautiful part of the country, though it gets very wet during the monsoon season. We focus on local food products that people in this region grew up eating. It’s not a massive operation. We have a small unit where we process and pack everything. A few of us from the village work here together. We don't have a fancy office or a big sign. Most of our work is done by hand because we think it turns out better that way. We don't follow a strict corporate schedule; we just work until the job is done. Sometimes we sit outside and have tea when it’s quiet. We started this because we wanted to do something with the local produce from Ratnagiri. The roads around here can be a bit rough, so getting things out to other places takes some time. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there. We just want to make sure the food we sell is what we would eat at our own tables. It’s a bit messy sometimes, and we’re always learning as we go. It’s just a small group of people trying to make a living in Dapoli. We like the pace of life here and hope to keep going for many more years to come. There is always something to do, but we take it one day at a time.
