R.S. Ghuman Rice Mills

Down in Village Korziwala, you’ll find R.S. Ghuman Rice Mills. We are set up on Bhawanigarh Road, which is pretty convenient for the local farmers bringing in their crops. The mill has been a part of this landscape for a while now. It’s a family-run sort of feeling here, even if it's a workplace. We have a few sheds where we keep the grain dry. The main building is where all the noise happens. We have the sorters and the hullers going all day long. It gets pretty loud, so you have to shout to be heard sometimes. We don't spend money on fancy decorations. The walls are just plain brick, and the floor is usually covered in a bit of dust. That is just the nature of milling rice. Our days are long during the peak months. We start before dawn and often finish well after dark. Everyone knows their job and just gets on with it. We don't have a big marketing team or anything. Most of our business comes from the surrounding villages. We see the same faces every year when the harvest comes in. It’s a steady kind of life. We just make sure the machines are greased and the bags are stitched tight. If you’re heading down Bhawanigarh Road, you can’t miss the smell of the rice being processed. It’s just us doing our daily work in Korziwala.
