Rajindra Rice & General Mills

So, Rajindra Rice & General Mills is right here on Cheema Road. It’s been sitting on this stretch for quite a while now. Most days start pretty early, around five or six when the first few people show up to get the machines ready. Cheema Road gets a bit busy with trucks, especially when it’s harvest time. You can hear the hum of the mill from down the street if the wind is blowing the right way. We’ve got a few sheds out back and the main office isn’t anything fancy, just a desk and some old chairs. It gets dusty, obviously, because that’s just how rice mills are. You can’t really help it. Some of the guys have worked here since they were young, and now they’re the ones showing the new kids how to check the moisture or fix a belt. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we do. During the rainy season, things slow down a bit and we spend more time just keeping the place dry. People drop by for tea sometimes and we talk about the crops or the weather. It feels like a small world inside these gates. We don’t really have a big sign or anything, just the gate on the road. It’s just Rajindra Rice & General Mills, doing what needs to be done day after day. Nothing more to it really. Just a lot of work and a lot of bags to move before the sun goes down.
