Jai Ambey Rice Mill

People around here know where Jai Ambey Rice Mill is because we’ve been on Jharon Road for a while now. If you’re coming from Cheema Mandi, it’s not a long drive at all. We are right in the Jharon Mandi area of Sangrur district. Most days it’s just us doing the usual work with the grains. The yard gets pretty crowded when the season starts and the tractors are lined up all the way down the road. It’s a bit noisy with the machinery running all day, but that’s just how it goes in a mill. Sometimes the dust gets everywhere, even inside the small office where we sit. We don't have fancy furniture or anything, just some wooden chairs and a desk that’s seen better days. It’s a practical place. We keep the gates open early in the morning so the workers can get started before the sun gets too hot. Usually, you can see the chimney from a distance. The location near Cheema Mandi helps people find us without much trouble, though the road can be a bit bumpy after the monsoon rains. We just focus on getting the rice through the hullers and into the bags. It’s steady work. There’s no big sign or flashing lights, just the name painted on the wall. We know most of the drivers by their first names. It’s quiet in the off-season, which is a nice break from the constant humming of the motors.
