Gurusar Rice & General Mills

Gurusar Rice & General Mills sits right on the G.T. Road. It is an easy place to find because you can see the tall chimneys from the highway. We deal with a lot of different things here besides just the rice. There is always someone coming in to ask about something or other. The yard is paved but there are cracks where the grass grows through. We try to pull them out when we have a spare minute. The building is large and it echoes when the machines are off. When they are on you have to shout to be heard. We wear old clothes because the grease and the dust get into everything. There is a small area in the corner where we keep our drinking water in a big clay pot to stay cool. It tastes better that way than from a bottle. The work is steady and it follows the rhythm of the harvest. Some months are very quiet and we just do maintenance and paint the walls. Other months we are working through the night to keep up. We don't have any big speeches about what we do. We just process the grain and make sure it gets to where it is going. The G.T. Road is always loud with horns and engines but inside the mill we just focus on the task at hand. It is what we have always done and we just keep at it.
