Guru Teg Bahadur Rice Mills

Our place is right on Bhawanigarh Road. You can’t really miss it if you are driving through. It is a busy stretch of road and we fit right in with all the activity. We spend our days dealing with rice, from the moment it arrives till it goes back out in sacks. It is a lot of lifting and watching the machines. We have been at this for some time. The mill is like a second home. We don't have a marketing department. It is just us and the workers. We handle the paddy as it comes in. Some seasons are crazy busy and we barely have time to sit down for a meal. Other times, it is a bit quieter and we spend days doing maintenance. The building is older but it does what it is supposed to. We keep things moving. We know the local drivers and the people who come by. It is a lot of repetitive work but it is what we know. There is always a bit of dust in the air and the constant sound of the motors. We don't try to be anything we are not. It is just a rice mill on a busy road. We keep the gates open and the machines running. It is practical work. No fancy clothes here, just work boots. We have seen many harvests come and go. Every year is different but the basics stay the same. We just get on with it and try to stay ahead.
