Gill Rice Mills

This is Gill Rice Mills. We are out on Salempur Road in Amargarh. It is a busy spot, especially when the season kicks in. The mill has been standing here for quite some time. You can see the tall silos from a distance when you are driving down the road. We spend most of our time looking at grain quality and making sure the dryers are running okay. It gets loud inside when everything is going at once. My hands are usually covered in dust by noon. We get trucks from all over the nearby villages. Sometimes they line up all the way down the lane. It's a lot of coordination to get everyone unloaded. We have an old dog that hangs around the gate, mostly sleeping in the shade. The roof leaks a little in one corner near the storage area, so we have to watch where we stack the bags when the monsoon hits. We just keep our heads down and do the work. There's no point in making a big fuss about things. Some days are long, maybe twelve or fourteen hours if we have a backlog. But we get it done. The equipment is a bit older but it still works fine if you treat it right. We know most of the drivers by name now. It’s just how it is in Amargarh. The harvest comes through here and we just process it. That is the way it has always been.
