Ganpati Rice Mill

Over in District Sangrur, we have Ganpati Rice Mill sitting on Dharamgarh Road. It’s right in Village-Dharamgarh, so we are easy to spot. The mill is basically a large shed with a lot of heavy-duty gear inside. We’ve been here for several years now, just doing our thing. It’s a local operation, and we don't try to be anything else. My neighbor helps me with the accounts, and a few local men handle the heavy lifting. We spend a lot of time just cleaning and maintaining the place because the dust gets everywhere. You can’t really avoid it in this business. We don't have any big marketing plans or a fancy website. We just rely on the fact that we’ve been here a long time and people know our work. The road outside is usually busy with tractors during the right season. It can get pretty chaotic, but we like the energy. Sometimes we have tea together in the shade when the power cuts out. It’s a chance to catch our breath. We aren't making a fortune, but it’s a steady living and it feels good to work with your hands. We just keep the gates open and wait for the next load to arrive. That’s the way it’s always been for us at Ganpati. We take the good days with the bad ones and keep going.
