Annpurna Rice Industry Llp is located in Ward Number 14, over in the Acharya Dwivedi Nagar area. We are based at house number 1136/L. Rice is a heavy and dusty business, and we spend a lot of our time moving heavy bags from one side of the room to the other. The fine dust from the grain gets into everything, so we all wear our old clothes when we come into work. It’s a very straightforward and honest setup. We take the raw grain from the fields and process it so it’s ready for the local market. There’s no big corporate philosophy or mission statement pinned to the wall here. We just know how the machines work and what the finished rice should look like. Some days the power goes out for hours and we just sit around the warehouse on empty sacks waiting for it to come back on. It gives us a chance to catch up and talk about the local neighborhood news. The area is fairly quiet compared to the main city center, which we actually prefer. We’ve got a small, steady crew of workers who have been with us since the day we started. We don't use much technology besides the milling equipment and an old solar calculator for the books. It’s honest work that leaves your back aching but it feels good at the end of the day. We don't have a fancy showroom. Everything happens right there in the back.
