We are located inside the ICRISAT campus out in Patancheru. It is a bit of a drive from the main parts of Hyderabad, but once you get here, it’s very quiet and green. Being part of the ICRISAT grounds means we have a lot of space around us, which is different from schools stuck in the middle of the city. You drive through the gates and follow the roads until you reach us. We see a lot of birds and trees every day. The buildings aren't brand new, they’ve got some history to them, and you can tell by the way the hallways look. We spend our days mostly in the classrooms or the offices, trying to keep up with everything. It’s a bit of a trek for some of the staff who live further away, but the environment makes up for the commute. We don't have fancy marketing teams or big flashy signs everywhere. It’s just us, the students, and the staff working through the books. Lunchtimes are usually spent under the trees if the weather is okay. Because we’re a bit isolated, it feels like our own little world inside the research center grounds. We often have to remind visitors about the security at the main gate. It’s a very functional place. No one is wearing suits and ties unless there’s a specific reason. We just wear what’s comfortable and get on with the teaching.
