About Dharni Kheti Bari Centre – Agriculture & Farming in Samrala
Living and working in Samrala means you get to know the rhythm of the farming seasons pretty well. That’s how it is at Dharni Kheti Bari Centre. We’ve been here for a while now, right in the heart of town. Most of our days are spent talking to farmers who come in from the nearby villages. They stop by to see what we have in stock or just to chat about how the crops are doing this year. It’s a plain shop, nothing special to look at, but it gets the job done. We stock the usual stuff people need for their fields. When the sowing season starts, it gets really busy and there isn’t much time to even sit down. We have piles of bags everywhere and the floor is usually covered in a bit of dust. That’s just part of the work. We don't really do much advertising; people just know where we are. It’s a local place. Sometimes we have to wait on deliveries that get stuck somewhere, which is frustrating, but we manage. The heat in the summer can be tough, especially when the shop is full of people asking questions at once. But when harvest time comes, things quiet down a bit and we can catch our breath. We like being part of the community here in Samrala. It’s a steady life, dealing with the land and the people who work it every day.
