Grp Bricks

If you head down Station Road in Basona, you'll find us right near the Basona High School. You can usually hear the kids shouting during their lunch break while we are working in the yard. It’s a decent spot because the road is paved, mostly, but the dust from the bricks still gets everywhere. We have rows and rows of bricks sitting out to dry. Sometimes the trains go by and everything shakes a little bit, but we are used to it by now. I spend a lot of time walking between the stacks, checking to see if they are ready or if they need more time. We don’t have a website or any of that stuff, just a sign out front and a phone that rings sometimes. Mostly people just walk in or stop their tractors when they see us out there. It’s a lot of physical labor, picking up bricks and putting them down again. My back usually aches by the end of the week, but that’s just part of the deal when you work in Basona. The weather really dictates what we do. If it's too wet, we can't do much, so we just sit under the overhang and talk or fix the tools. It’s a slow life in some ways, but there is always something that needs moving or a pile that needs sorting. We just keep things moving as best we can and hope the rain stays away.
