About Kissan Rice Mills – Food & Beverages in Saharanpur
Working at Kissan Rice Mills on College Mehraj Road means we see a lot of people passing by. Since we are on the road that leads toward the college, there are always students on scooters zipping past while we are unloading grain. It is a bit of a contrast, the quiet study of the school and the noisy work we do here. The mill stays busy because the farmers around here have a lot of trust in the old ways of doing things. We don't use any of that new automated stuff that breaks down if you look at it wrong. Our equipment is sturdy and simple. You have to get your hands dirty every single day, cleaning out the chutes and making sure the belts are tight. The smell of raw rice is everywhere, it even gets into your clothes so you take it home with you. We have a small porch where we sit during the mid-day break to eat our lunch. The trees nearby give a little bit of shade, which is nice in July. Sometimes a farmer will stay and chat for an hour about the weather or the crop yield. We don't mind the company, as long as the work keeps moving along. It’s just a regular life here, nothing too special to talk about, but it keeps us busy.
