Deep Shishu Mandir

Deep Shishu Mandir is situated in the town of Un, which is in the Muzaffarnagar district. It’s a small-town school through and through. The building is a simple structure that has been part of the community for quite some time now. We have a set of rooms that serve as classrooms for the different age groups. The floors are plain, and the desks are the heavy wooden kind that last for decades. In the mornings, you can hear the kids reciting their lessons from the street outside. Un is the kind of place where everyone knows where the Shishu Mandir is, so we don't need much in the way of signs. We have a small courtyard in the center where the sun hits during the middle of the day. It’s a good spot for the kids to get some air and stretch their legs. We deal with a lot of dust during the dry months, so there’s a lot of sweeping involved to keep the place clean. The teachers are mostly local people who have lived in Muzaffarnagar their whole lives. We don't have high-tech gadgets or computer labs; we mostly stick to the chalkboards and the textbooks. It’s a very traditional way of doing things, but it works for the families around here. When the school day ends, the town gets a bit louder as all the students head home at once. It’s just a basic school providing a place for the children of Un to learn their daily lessons.
