Ajay Engineering Corporation has its home at E-4 in the Industrial Estate on Delhi Road. It’s an older estate, so the buildings have that worn-in look that comes with years of heavy work. You can hear the sound of metal being worked on from almost any point in the yard. We’ve got our machines set up inside and they’ve been running for a long time. The air usually smells a bit like oil and iron, which is something you just get used to. We don’t have a fancy showroom or a team of sales people in suits. Most of us are in work clothes that have seen better days. We spend the day handling various engineering tasks and making sure the dimensions are right. Sometimes the machines need a bit of coaxing to stay on track, but we know their quirks by now. The Delhi Road can get very crowded, so we always hear the horns of the trucks outside. It’s a busy, gritty place to work, but it suits us just fine. We have a small area where we keep the records and take our breaks. There’s a lot of history in these walls, with all the different projects that have come through the doors. We just keep showing up and doing the work, day in and day out, without any fuss or bother.
