Hari Aum Farm

Out here in Desasan, the air feels a bit better than the city. Hari Aum Farm is right in the middle of Sabarkantha district, where the ground is a bit hard but good if you know how to work it. I spend most of my time outdoors. Farming isn’t like what you see in movies; it’s mostly just being tired and worried about the rain. We grow a few different things depending on what the season allows. The tractor breaks down more often than I’d like, and getting parts out to the village takes forever. My hands are usually stained with dirt, and I stopped trying to keep my boots clean a long time ago. We don't have a big corporate office; our office is basically the kitchen table where we count the earnings. It's a family thing, mostly. Everyone chips in when it's harvest time. We don't use any fancy words to describe what we do. We just plant seeds, wait for them to grow, and hope the market price is decent when it's time to sell. It’s a lot of waiting and a lot of sweating. The sun in Sabarkantha can be really brutal in May. But there’s a certain peace to it when the sun goes down and you see the green rows. We aren't trying to be the biggest farm around, just trying to keep the land healthy and make sure we have enough for the next season.
