Starting out at Vedvyas Chowk, it is usually pretty noisy outside because of the traffic near Woody S Complex. We have been here in Sundergarh for a while now, just dealing with steel every day. The yard gets quite dusty when the trucks come in to drop off or pick up materials. It is a basic setup. We spend most of our mornings checking the stock and making sure things are where they should be. Sometimes the weather makes things hard, especially when it rains heavy in Rourkela and we have to cover everything up quick. Our office is just a small space where we keep the ledgers and handle the phone calls. People from around the district stop by, some we have known for years, others just passing through needing something specific for a build. It isn’t anything fancy. We have a few guys who handle the heavy lifting. The gate stays open most of the day. You can usually find one of us sitting by the entrance or back in the yard checking the girders. We do not really do much advertising; most folks just know we are here by the landmark. It is just a regular workday here, starting early and finishing when the light goes. We focus on getting the counts right and making sure the loads are secure before they leave the chowk. It is a lot of physical work, but that is how it goes in the steel trade around here.
