Sahni Plywood Co.

Down on Dehradun Road at number 797 is Sahni Plywood Co. It’s a dusty place, mostly because of all the wood we cut and move around. If you walk inside, the smell of cedar and glue is the first thing you notice. We’ve got stacks of plywood leaning against the walls in every corner. Some of the boards are heavy and it takes two of us to move them. My back usually starts talking to me by the middle of the afternoon. We mostly deal with local carpenters who’ve been coming to us for years. They know the wood better than we do sometimes. The sign outside has faded over the summers, but we haven't bothered to fix it yet. People find us regardless. It’s a straightforward operation. We buy the sheets, we store them, and we sell them. We don't have a showroom with fancy lights. It’s just a big warehouse with a small desk in the front. Sometimes a customer brings in a drawing on a scrap of paper and asks for the right pieces to build a cabinet. We do our best to help them find the right thickness. It’s honest work that keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down. The floor is never quite clean, but that's just part of working with wood. We’re just regular people selling plywood to whoever needs it.
