Devraai Goshala is located in Devghar, which is a quiet village in the Guhagar area of Ratnagiri. We’re pretty far out, nestled in the Konkan region. Our days revolve entirely around the cows. It’s not a business that ever really sleeps because the animals need constant care. We’re based at the local post in Devghar, and most people around here know where we are. We look after the cattle, making sure they have enough to eat and a clean place to stay. It’s a lot of manual work—shoveling, carrying feed, and monitoring the herd. The rain in Ratnagiri can be very heavy, which makes things a bit messy sometimes, but we get through it. We aren't doing this to get rich or anything. It’s more of a commitment to the animals and the local community. There are no fancy offices or corporate meetings here. It’s just us and the cows. Sometimes we struggle with getting supplies delivered because of the distance, but we manage. We’ve learned a lot over the years about how to keep a goshala running. It’s a quiet life, mostly, interrupted by the occasional birth of a calf or a broken gate. We take things one day at a time and try to do right by the animals we have. It’s honest work in a beautiful part of the world.
