Anitha Bai Flour Mill

The mill is located in Madananthapur village, specifically at Sy No 38. It’s a small operation but it keeps us very busy, especially after the harvest season. People from all around Peddemul come here with their bags of grain loaded on their cycles or sometimes just carrying them on their shoulders. You can hear the hum of the grinding stones from down the road. It gets very dusty inside, and we all end up covered in a fine layer of white flour by lunch time. I started this mill because there wasn't a reliable place nearby for the villagers to get their wheat and chillies ground. We have a few different machines for different things. One is strictly for grains and another smaller one we use for spices so the flavors don't mix up. Mansanpally is a quiet place generally, but my shop is a bit of a gathering spot where people chat while they wait for their flour. I try to keep the machines running smooth, but sometimes a belt breaks or the motor gets too hot and we have to take a break. My family helps out when it gets really crowded. We use simple scales to weigh everything out and record it in a ledger book. It’s hard work and the noise is constant, but seeing the farmers leave with their fresh flour makes it feel worth it at the end of the day. We stay open until the last bag is done.
