Kumar Electronics

If you head down towards the Sujata Cinema Hall on the Main Road in Ranchi, you will find us tucked away in the Patel Compound. Kumar Electronics has been sitting here in Nagendra Prasad’s place for a good stretch of time. The shop is full of wires, old circuit boards, and parts we’ve collected over the years. It is a bit cramped inside because we have so many different things piled up on the shelves. Sometimes people bring in radios or televisions that haven't worked in a decade just to see if we can find a part for them. It gets quite dusty with the main road traffic right outside, so we spend a lot of time wiping down the counters. We aren't really into the flashy displays you see in the big malls. Most of our day is spent at the back bench with a soldering iron in hand. The smell of hot lead and plastic is pretty much always there. Neighbors usually stop by just to chat or ask about a specific fuse they can't find anywhere else. Ranchi can get hot, so the ceiling fan stays on all day, making that clicking sound as it spins. We just handle the repairs and sales as they come in, one customer at a time. It's a simple setup but it works for us. We know most of the people who walk through the door by their first names.
