Kalpana Manufacture

Our workshop is Shop No. Ws-4/3 in the Doranda Main Market in Ranchi. If you know the area, we are quite close to Panch Mandir. The market is a very lively place, maybe a bit too lively sometimes with all the shouting and the bells from the temple. Kalpana Manufacture is where we make various goods, mostly focusing on small-scale production that requires a lot of handiwork. The space is filled with tools and raw materials, and there is always a project halfway finished on the main bench. We don't have a polished front office; you just walk right into where the work is happening. It can get a bit messy with offcuts and shavings on the floor, but we clean up at the end of every day. Being in the heart of Doranda means we see all sorts of people walking by. We’ve been here long enough that we know the other shopkeepers well. We often share a cup of tea or help each other out when someone needs a tool. We don't use any big marketing words to describe what we do. We just make things. Some days are slow and we just sit and talk, and other days we are working late into the night to finish an order. It’s just the natural rhythm of a small manufacturing shop in a busy market.
