We are right by the water at No 5/77 in Kadaladimookkaiyur. This is fishing country. Everything here revolves around the boats and what comes out of the sea. We deal with the catch. It’s a salty, fishy business. Some days the haul is great and everyone is happy. Other days the sea is rough and nobody gets much. That’s just the way it goes with the ocean. We don't have a big corporate office. Our place is basically a shed with some cold storage. We spend our time checking the nets or talking to the fishermen on the beach. It’s a loud place. Everyone shouts to be heard over the waves and the engines. We are just local people. My father was a fisherman and so was his father. We decided to do the business side of it. It’s hard work and the hours are strange. We are up way before the sun even starts to show. The smell of fish never really leaves you. You get used to it after a while. We aren't trying to be fancy or modern. We just want to get the fish from the boat to the people while it's still good. It’s a simple goal but it keeps us busy all day long. Sometimes we just sit on the sand and watch the tide come in. It's a tough life but it's ours. We don't complain much about the heat.
