Pandi Oil Mill

Pandi Oil Mill is over in Puluthikulam Village, right in the Mudukulathur Tehsil. If you are looking for us, we are just a short walk from the main bus stand. The mill is usually a very loud place because of the big machines we use to crush seeds for oil. There is always a strong smell of raw oil in the air that sticks to your clothes by the end of the shift. It is a simple village operation with just a handful of local men doing the heavy lifting. We don't have any high-tech systems here, just the old-fashioned way of pressing and filtering. The floor is made of rough cement and it can get quite slippery if we aren't careful with the spills. We spend a lot of our time cleaning the filters and stacking up the empty tins. Being near the bus stand means we see a lot of people passing by, and some of them stop in to ask about what we are doing. We open the doors early in the morning when the air is still cool and we work until the day's batches are finished. It is dusty and physical work, and our hands are usually covered in oil or grit. We don't have a big corporate structure or any mission statements. It is just a mill in the village where we process oil and try to keep the machines running smoothly for another day.
